PERCEPTUAL ENVIRONMENT™
SITE-SPECIFIC ARTISTIC ENVIRONMENTS BY NATALIA SOKOLOVA
Artwork, place and perception as one composition.
Every place has its own voice. My work begins by listening to the place.
I observe how light moves through it, how architecture meets landscape, where people pause and what they notice.
The work belongs to the place.
THE ARTWORK IS THE BEGINNING. THE ENVIRONMENT IS THE MEDIUM. THE PERSON IS THE EXPERIENCE.
THE PRACTICE
I am a contemporary artist working with perception as part of my artistic medium. My practice begins with a place — its architecture, light, landscape, material, movement, silence and human rhythms.
SENSORY MEDIATION
For selected works, I create Sensory Mediation — an artist-authored score for attention. It may invite a person to slow down, listen before looking, or notice light, material, movement and their own presence.
I create the conditions. The experience belongs to the person.
A PERSONAL ENCOUNTER
I create environments in which a person may notice more — in the place, in the artwork, and sometimes within themselves.
The environment is shared. The experience remains individual.
PE 001 · LISTENING TO THE SILENCE · CORFU 2026
The artworks remained physically unchanged. The experience did not.
SITE-SPECIFIC COMMISSIONS
Every commission begins before the artwork is defined. It begins with the place.
What could be created here that could not exist anywhere else?
